OUR BRAND STORY
Town House, founded in the 1960s as a warm and welcoming family-run shop in Hong Kong, has grown into a trusted curator of fine international homewares, guided by a philosophy of personalised service and a passion for beautifully crafted pieces with stories to tell.
Home to the most beautiful and unique collections.
Our story began in the 1960s. Mohini Gidumal, whose passion for beautiful things for the home and meeting new people inspired her to set up Town House, supported by her husband Mohan.
The first Town House store opened in Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. It featured a fireplace, bringing a cozy, relaxed, home-like atmosphere to the space. Here, all customers were family — being offered tea and made to feel at home.
The home of high-end English tableware
Town House quickly established itself as the place to find high-end English tableware, crystalware, and silverware with brands such as Waterford, Wedgwood and Carrs Silver.
Town House’s retail footprint grew throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1989, Mohan and Mohini’s son, Ravi, joined the business, spearheading the expansion of its retail business, particularly through the development of its relationship with Swarovski and later, with Riedel.
Philosophy rooted in personal attention, care, and respect.
Ravi also established Town House’s wholesale arm, selling to Hong Kong’s leading hotels, restaurants and clubs. In the 2000s, the wholesale business extended to luxury client retailers including Lane Crawford and Watson’s Wine Cellar.
Today, Town House is best defined by two things: Its service, as evidenced by its deeply loyal customers and its commitment to offering special in-shop experiences; and by its portfolio of curated, difficult-to-find collections from around the world, each with its own unique story.
